A fresh grip takes about two minutes and changes how the paddle feels on every shot. Here is how to install VEX Memory and when to swap it.
What you need
- Your paddle
- A VEX Memory grip
- Scissors
- Finishing tape
Install in five steps
- Remove the old grip. Unwind it from the top and peel it off. Leave the handle's base layer and butt cap in place.
- Start at the butt cap. Peel back the first part of the adhesive backing, line the tapered end up with the bottom edge of the handle, and anchor it with a firm first wrap.
- Wrap upward with even tension. Keep a light, steady pull and overlap each pass slightly so no handle shows through. Peel the backing as you go.
- Finish at the throat. Stop where the handle meets the paddle face, trim the excess at an angle, and secure the end with finishing tape.
- Set the foam. Squeeze the grip all the way around for a few seconds. You're ready to play.
Dial in the feel
- Want a thicker handle? Use a bigger overlap, or add an overgrip on top.
- Want a thinner handle? Use a smaller overlap.
- Grip feels loose? Re-wrap with a little more tension.
When to regrip
Swap your grip when the surface turns slick, the cushion feels flat, or you see tears or fraying. Players on court several times a week usually notice this sooner, which is why many keep a spare in the bag.
